01

The signal

Shinhan Asset Management signed an agreement on August 21 with the Solana Foundation, Etherfuse and Orca to test a won-denominated tokenized fund. The prototype is intended to cover investor checks, issuance, distribution and liquidity. The planned fund would invest in short-term Korean bonds for overseas institutional investors.

02

Why it matters

This test covers the full fund workflow, not just the creation of a token. It aims to connect an asset manager’s regulatory duties with issuance and trading on a public blockchain. Making those systems work together remains a major barrier between tokenization trials and routine financial use.

03

What changes

Shinhan brings investment management and regulatory expertise, Etherfuse supplies issuance infrastructure, Orca designs liquidity and Solana provides the technical ledger. The project therefore creates a concrete setting to test subscriptions, transfers and redemptions. It does not create a fund that investors can access today.

04

The caveat

A cooperation agreement and a prototype are neither regulatory approval nor a launch. The partners have disclosed no fund size, yield, custodian, contract or timetable. Shinhan is also running a separate test with Plume, suggesting that its infrastructure choice remains open. South Korea’s rules expected in 2027 will still shape any commercial offer.

05

What to watch

Useful evidence would include public prototype results, the fund’s legal structure, a named custodian, technical contracts and audits, then regulatory clearance. Eligibility and evidence of real liquidity will matter too. Until those milestones appear, this is a credible experiment rather than a launched investment product.
